Growth environment
Xinjiang cotton mainly grows in the Turpan Basin and the Tarim Basin in Xinjiang, including Aksu, Bayingolin, and Kashgar. This region enjoys long hours of sunlight, with the longest reaching over 16 hours, which is conducive to photosynthesis. The large temperature difference between day and night, dry climate and long frost-free period provide sufficient growth time for cotton. Xinjiang cotton has a concurrent water and heat supply during its growth season, thanks to the snowmelt from the Tianshan and Kunlun Mountains, which provides abundant, stable and high-quality water resources. The dry climate and extremely cold winter weather are not conducive to the growth and reproduction of pests, reducing the problem of pests and diseases during the growth of cotton.
Morphological characteristics
Xinjiang long-staple cotton has longer fibers, generally ranging from 33 to 39 millimeters, with the longest reaching up to 64 millimeters. The fineness is 7,000 to 8,500 meters per gram. The fiber width is approximately between 15 and 16 micrometers. Xinjiang long-staple cotton has a relatively high strength, ranging from 4 to 5 grams force per fiber. The breaking length of Xinjiang long-staple cotton can reach 33 to 40 kilometers. The cross-section of Xinjiang long-staple cotton fibers is close to circular, with a strong reflection rate of sunlight. Fabrics made from it have good luster and excellent dyeing effects.
